After last weekend’s powerful storm left nearly 3 feet of new snow on Red Mountain Pass there was no doubt the new powder would make for excellent riding conditions. There was also no doubt the snowpack had some instabilities under the big load and would be presenting an avalanche hazard. With this all-too-common scenario of great powder and an unstable snowpack, Mike, Jack, and I had to be diligent about choosing appropriate terrain to cash in on the snowy bounty while minimizing our risk.
