Red Rocks Trip Report
icon1 admin | icon2 Rock Climbing | icon4 Oct 23rd, 2013|

Each year in October, we travel to Red Rock National Conservation Area for 10 days of fun-filled, world-class rock climbing. Located outside of Las Vegas, Red Rocks is home to rock climbing of every type, from single pitch sport routes near the car to 17-pitch adventure routes in the backcountry.  The following trip report showcases some of the great climbing that guide Matt Wade and clients Cheryl, Jared, Angel, Ilya, Jim, and Alex did during our 10-day trip this year.  Hope to see you next year!

We had a great trip to Red Rocks this year with lots of good climbing and lots of wonderful people!  Larry was back for another year (his third in a row), John was back again too (his second in a row), and Victoria, Carson, Gordon, and Sonya joined us for their first trip to this great climbing destination.  Thanks to everyone for so many terrific days on the rock!  Following are a few photos from our climbs.

We had three great trips in Red Rocks last week that were filled with classic climbing, great desert weather, and lots of smiles.  Following is a short compilation of words and photos that describe the three programs led by guide Matt Wade.  Consider joining us for a trip in 2012! Call or email for dates.

The week began with two days of climbing with Larry from Michigan. Matt and Larry started by warming up on single pitch routes in Willow Springs, including the classic Spiderline (5.7).

Here is a video of guide Matt Wade leading the final pitch of Solar Slab in Red Rocks with good friend and long-time client Troy Rutledge.  Matt and Troy shot this video with Troy’s GoPro helmet cam during their trip to Red Rocks last year.   The climb was great and playing with the GoPro was just as fun!  We’ll be in Red Rocks again this fall and we still have space available from October 8-13.  Give us a call if you would like to join us for a climb!

We are excited to announce that Guide Matt Wade will be available for guided climbing and instructional programs in Red Rocks this fall, from October 3-17.  Red Rocks is a world-class destination for rock climbing that offers everything from single pitch sport climbs to multi-pitch traditional routes.  Equally appealing, Red Rocks is conveniently located only 35 minutes from downtown Las Vegas, making it one of the most accessible rock climbing areas in the country.  Please visit our Red Rocks webpage for additional information or contact us at info@peakmountainguides.com to reserve your dates.

Troy arrived in Las Vegas on a warm Saturday night and I could tell by the smile on his face that he was eager to climb.  After a busy fall with limited time for climbing, he was really excited to get on a big route and log lots of mileage on the rock.  The forecast was calling for one more day of good weather before a big storm system was scheduled to arrive, so we made a plan to go as big as we could with the weather window we had.  After discussing different options, we settled on an ascent of Johnny Vegas & Solar Slab.  These two routes combine to offer 11 pitches of climbing in the 5.6-5.7 level of difficulty, and amount to nearly 1500′ of climbing.  Mileage here we come!
