It’s that time of year again, desert climbing season has arrived!  We love this time of year.  There’s nothing better after a long, cold winter than enjoying warm desert weather and getting back on the rock.  To get you stoked, we have compiled a few photos from some of the classic desert climbs around Moab and Western Colorado. Rock on!

As cell phones grow more powerful with integrated GPS receivers, stronger antennae, and a myriad of useful applications, they are becoming a staple in the packs and pockets of outdoor enthusiasts.  The following 3 apps are some of our favorites that we use in the backcountry on a regular basis.

icon1 admin | icon2 Rock Climbing | icon4 Oct 23rd, 2013|

Each year in October, we travel to Red Rock National Conservation Area for 10 days of fun-filled, world-class rock climbing. Located outside of Las Vegas, Red Rocks is home to rock climbing of every type, from single pitch sport routes near the car to 17-pitch adventure routes in the backcountry.  The following trip report showcases some of the great climbing that guide Matt Wade and clients Cheryl, Jared, Angel, Ilya, Jim, and Alex did during our 10-day trip this year.  Hope to see you next year!

Perhaps there is no desert tower more famous than the wildly exposed, adrenaline inducing Ancient Art Tower near Moab, UT.  The awe-inspiring corkscrew summit is a fascinating display of geology that is remarkable to behold, and even more remarkable to stand on!  With a rating of 5.8+ AO, this tower can be enjoyed by intermediate climbers with a zest for adventure.  Following are some photos from a recent climb by clients Gordon and Sonya W. and Guide Matt Wade.

Kids and Families Rock Ouray
icon1 admin | icon2 Rock Climbing | icon4 Aug 12th, 2012|

We have been enjoying lots of rock climbing with kids and families this summer.  Our half-day introduction to rock climbing in Ouray has been very popular, especially since kids 10 and under climb free!  Following are a few photos from some of our recent outings on Ouray’s rock climbing crags.  Most of the images are from the Ouray Rotary Wall which is just 5 minutes from our office.

Our location in Southwestern Colorado gives us access to an incredible diversity of rock types, climbing styles, and world class routes.  This week Ilya and I went on a 2-day tour of “Walls and Towers” to sample a few of the classic climbs in the region.  We climbed Maiden Voyage (III 5.9, 6 pitches) in the Black Canyon and The North Chimney (III 5.9, 4 pitches) on Castleton Tower.  In just two days we climbed two highly memorable routes with big exposure, wild summits, and beautiful climbing.  By keeping the difficulty at the 5.9 level these routes offer a rewarding and special experience that is achieveable for many climbers.
